Custom Hand - crafted Knives
The knives that I handcraft are made from a variety of different metals ranging from 440C, 6A, 8A, ATS34, D2 and occasionally some L-6. The handle material that I use is an even wider range, using various hardwoods such as Black Walnut, Cherry and Cocobolo. I also use indigenous woods to Southeast Alaska such as Yew, Yellow Cedar and Alder. Other favorite materials consist of deer, moose and caribou antler, Dall sheep horn, various fossilized bones of Ice Age origin, mammoth ivory, fossilized walrus tusk and walrus oosik. Dymondwood is also used which are thin laminated layers of natural hardwoods, resins and dyes are embedded in the wood under heat and pressure. Stains are not used on the hardwoods but I do use a clear Danish Tung Oil and then some furniture paste wax. I like using mineral oil on handles of the knives that are for everyday use as well as the seasonal hunting trip. If desired, some knives can be engraved with Alaskan wildlife.
About 90% of my knife orders are now custom work for people. Hopefully I will have more knives to offer soon. In the meantime, if you see a knife that you like, and it's sold, let me know and I can make another or at least one similar to it.
All knives come with leather sheaths where each sheath is hand fitted to the knife. All sheaths are hand sewn by myself. Material used is a high quality, heavy 8 to 9 oz leather, top quality stain or dyes, heavy wax coated nylon type threads and a good couple of coats of top quality mink oil are also used. Sheaths can be plain or I can tool or carve in a wide range of designs and borders.
If you would like a custom hand crafted knife, please contact me and together, we might be able to create a treasured family heirloom.
Thank you for your orders and your patience.
